James Richard studied at the University of Lausanne, where he earned a bachelor and master’s degree in law for the legal professions. He served as a student representative at various levels, including the University of Lausanne Council, where he was a member of the Legislative Committee.

After an internship with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Canton of Neuchâtel, he rendered a master’s dissertation on the interpretation of DNA expert reports.

He practices in French and English.
